The very short sleepover.

This is my friend N. These are her kids, Twin A and Twin B.
Twin B is the epitome of health. Twin A? Not so much. She has some things going on with her cute little body that N and her husband manage like the experts that they are. The twins are both ridiculously beautiful children (well, I mean look at N. Duh.) and both smart as little whips.

Because of Twin A's challenges, there are very few instances when the twins get to have sleepovers like other little girls. Namely, because Twin A gets all of her food at night, through her G tube. She is also a Type I diabetic, which, when combined with her eating schedule, must be monitored even more closely than other diabetics. ANYWAYS.

N and the twins were over at our house last Friday night. We were eating Pizza, drinking Sonic, and making a HUGE wall hanging which, because of N, turned out Spectacular - and I can't wait to unveil it. (by the way, if you want to meet the beautiful N in person, come on out to 4's baptism dinner. She will be manning the food table. I would never be able to do it without her.)

The girls were playing, running in and out, in and out, in and out, in and out.

Finally, one of them asked, "Can we have a sleepover here Aunt MaLeisa? (They call me Aunt MaLeisa because they go with 3 and 4 to Aunt Melissa's every day after school and they figure if 3 and 4's Aunt Melissa is also their Aunt Melissa, then I must be Aunt MaLeisa. It makes perfect sense, right?)
Anyway, I couldn't look at that little girl and say no. Of course I said yes.

Now. It was already late, and N lives a few miles away. N knew if they had a sleepover she would have to trek home, get all of Twin A's medical supplies, trek back, help me hook her up (I do keep her over night from time to time, but it had been a while, and there had been a few equipment changes, so I needed a tutorial) and get them settled.

Because of the late hour, most other mothers, well almost all other mothers, would have squashed this idea in it's infancy. N, however, is a SUPER mom. She really is. She would do anything for those twins. She does everything she can to help them both feel like they are "normal". Whatever normal means. But you know what I mean.

So, she trekked home, got Twin A's supplies and food, trekked back, helped me hook her up, and got them settled
.
Then she went home. By this time it is honestly almost midnight. Twin A has to come off her food by 8 am or something, so N was back by then.

I also need to say that Twin A's blood must be checked every three hours. I am happy to set my alarm and do this..... however each time I checked it this night it was outside the acceptable range, so I had to call N for instructions on how to adjust the insulin pump. N has been happily and gratefully performing these duties for her precious A for 7 years or so now. N was happy I called.

Happy. At 2:30 a.m and 5:30 a.m. Now that I think about it, maybe it's N who isn't normal. JK. JK.
Dear N,
You are such an amazing person. The way you calmly go about your life with these girls is both inspiring and awe provoking. And those are big words and I'm not exaggerating. I know for a fact that the reason Twin A got you for a mother is because Heavenly Father couldn't trust anyone else to do the job. The way you take care of her is an example to all of us. And the way you take care of Twin B, and her needs, and the fact that she is the healthy twin, and all the stuff that goes along with that. The fact that you recognize that she needs to feel special and important and extra loved too, and the effort you put into making sure that happens. N, there is a reason you got these two little girls. How lucky they are!! And how lucky I am for meeting you at the big W and making such a strong connection and keeping our friendship alive. I'm a lucky girl and I love you.
Love,
MaLeisa
