Hang In There Sugar Plum.

This is My Girl.

My Beautiful dark haired, light eyed girl.

She is 11. She has had some sort of metal contraption in her mouth since she was 6.

Isn't that sad?
This is her 2nd set of braces. She has had them on for well over a year now.

They were supposed to last 12 months and then she was supposed to be done forever.

Except for retainers of course.

She went to her Orthodontist appointment at the 12 month mark. She was giddy with excitement. She was sure they were coming off.

They didn't come off. And that was a few months ago.

They told her this, and she excitedly repeated it to me:

"We will put a couple more brackets on at your next visit or maybe the next visit after that, and then we will move those teeth in probably only two visits, and then maybe the next visit you can get them off."

As she was talking animatedly, so excited that there was an end in sight, I could tell she was doing calculations in her head. Her visits are 6 to 8 weeks apart, give or take. Her excitement slowly turned to alligator tears.

It was sad.

Dear 3:

It will all be worth it in the end. You are too pretty to have sideways teeth.

I promise.

Love,
Mom

  1. I FEEL HER PAIN! Poor girl, I also had 2 sets of braces. 7 years total. Inbetween sessions, I had a permanent retainer of which I had night head gear too. I went through SO MUCH PAIN. If she needs someone to vent to that understands that whole not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel... she can talk to me.
ps.. make her wear her retainers. Because i never did.. and well... i should have. but also understand when she "accidently loses them or breaks them" because after all the torture.. we just want it to be over. And in the end... after all the rubber bands, head gear, tightening, being told things and then having them not happen.. etc etc etc.. our mouth is fine the way it is if we just don't have to suffer anymore.
