The First Four Days On The Farm

 1.  We realized that we live smack across the street from a Clydesdale.  Sersly.  And he is a HANDSOME man.
Completely unrelated to The Farm....but here is my newest little piece of Heaven.
Picked him up from the hospital on April 15th.  He is precious and perfect and his name is D.
 2.  The dogs realized we lived across the street from the irrigation canal.
The dogs both ran up, looked me in the eye, said thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou.
And then jumped back in.

Dear Dogs,
You are very welcome.

 3. On days 1 and 2, respectively, we were welcomed by our neighbors on all sides, in person, bearing gifts of homemade bread, homemade jam, and homemade peach cobbler, made with peaches from their own trees.  On day 4, we were gifted with fresh eggs, and more fresh peaches than the children can eat all week.  It's like we drove into some sort of happy twilight zone and this neighborhood feels like Mayberry but it is smack in the middle of a bustling suburbia.  I almost feel like we don't deserve this perfectness.

But we do.  I know that we do.
 4.  From this view, the corner of our huge backyard,4 came waltzing in on day 1 and nonchalantly announced....."So, a baby cow was just born outside.  Some guys were out there helping, and it just came out.  And there was mooing.  Alot of mooing.:"

That is a direct quote.  I wrote it down because it was so funny that this little city girl adjusted to farm life so fast that on the first day she saw a cow give birth and took it in stride.

Dear 4,
Just when I think you can't get any better,
you get better.
xoxoxox,
Mom
 5.  There was already a bunny hutch, so of course we got two bunnies.
They are siblings, so fingers crossed it isn't a boy and a girl or Hughes says he
is going to make some rabbit stew.  I think he will be eating it alone.
 6. There was already a chicken coop.  So let there be chickens.
Six chickens.
Soon to be joined by a pig and a lamb.
I'm not kidding.

7. 3 and 4 are already having friends over.  In fact, there are triplets 4's age right next door, if acre lots can be right next door, and after playing with them for two days, their parents gave her a house key and asked her to watch their cats while they went out of town.

Because that is what happens in Mayberry.

You give your house keys to people you just met 2 days ago.  Because if they move to Mayberry, they must be awesome.

Dear Neighbors,
Don't worry.
We ARE awesome.
xoxoxo,

Happily stumbled on this blog, after plugging your name in facebook on a whim. (Don't worry, I don't actually follow blogs - one peek is all I usually make time for.)
With OUR recent move, not a soul welcomed us. We made the first move and met 2 neighbors, but only rarely see them in passing. *sigh* BUT we're still enjoying it here. Glad you're happy!

PS. I think he's a Friesian - he IS awesome!! (You know the movie LadyHawke? Goliath is Friesian.) There used to be 2 of them until a few months ago.
