Are you guys sisters?

The Husband, myself, 3 and 4 ventured to the far reaching netherlands of the Valley tonight. There was something I had found on Craigslist that I had to have.

I had to have it.

Craigslist is both the most revolting (personals) and genius (for sale items) internet invention ever. It's like going to 568 garage sales from the comfort of your own home. But I digress.

While The Husband and the friendly Mr. Terry whom sold us the must-have items were loading the truck, 3 and 4 were ever-so-slowly gravitating towards three little girls who were slowly circling on their bikes, watching our activites' with interest.

Finally, one of the little girls approached 3 and said. "Want to come play with us for a while?" 3 happily nodded, took 4 by the hand, and off they wandered. As they walked away, I heard the little girl say, "So, are you guys sisters?"

Now, if you know me, you know I don't get all mushy over small talk. But that innocent little question pierced my heart. "So, are you guys sisters?"

And I realized something. Unwittingly, I have given my girls one of the greatest gifts in the world.

Sisters.

None of my girls will ever be alone when they need someone. They all have a sister and two to spare, someone will always be there.

I don't have a sister. I have always been outside looking in at those who have sisters to share their lives.

But I can say, from outside looking in, that those girls seem the luckiest of all.
And now a poem for my girls:
"Sisters annoy, interfere, and criticize."

"Indulge in monumental sulks, in huffs, in snide remarks."

"Borrow. Break. Monopolize the bathroom."
"Are always underfoot."
"But if catastrophe should strike,
sisters are there.
Defending you against all comers."
-Pam Brown

Dear 1,2,3,and 4:

Mom

  2. I do too! And yes sisters are great. I have three and I know that no matter what, they will always love me and want the best for me. I'm sorry I didn't produce even one sister for you, but you can always know that I am there for you - forever and a day. Love Mom
